Current Release (1.5.0.2 represents a minor bug fix for version 1.5.0.1)
This release includes the long awaited MTP device plugin. It also
includes updates to the iTunes and iPod plugins to synchronize files in chronological
order from oldest to newest. Additionally this version includes a fix to allow use
of network paths/shares (i.e., paths starting with \\) for storing both the HappyFish
data file as well as downloaded files. Other assorted fixes are included.
Feedback is always welcome via the forum.
Users upgrading from a previous version should review the installation notes
below. .NET 2.0 Required.
(XP and Vista on 32 or 64 bit systems)
Installation Notes:
HappyFish now stores in data in your documents folder by default in a directory
called HappyFish Data. The style sheet for HappyFish's browser window is also located
there. The style sheet should be named "hfstylesheet.css" for it to be recognized.
I made a few changes to the current one. If you don't like it you can return to
the previous version. I included it (hf.css). Just rename the hf.css file to hfstylesheet.css
and HappyFish will use it instead. Feel free to modify as you like. If you come
up with a good one, please send it to me. I'll post them in a gallery for others
to download and use.
The installer adds the application and necessary supporting files to your computer
as well as creating shortcuts in the start menu and startup folder. HappyFish is
designed to be run constantly so that scheduled feed checks can occur in the background.
HappyFish minimizes to the system tray. Restarting the app usually clears most catastrophic
errors. If you encounter errors or have suggestions for features please post them
in the forum.
FOR USERS UPGRADING FROM VERSION 1.0.0.x OR LATER:
Exit HappyFish if it is currently running. Optionally, make a backup copy of your
data directory, being sure to copy rather than move the directory. Run the installer.
On first run, HappyFish will offer you the opportunity to migrate your data. Follow
the on screen directions. If you want to rerun the migration tool go to Help > About.
FOR USERS UPGRADING FROM VERSIONS PRIOR TO 1.0.0.x:
Data migration from 0.9.x.x or earlier is not supported. You can export your feed
list to OPML, install the new version and import your feeds into the new version
using the import feature File > Import from OPML.
Software Requirements:
.NET Framework
2.0
HappyFish was written for Windows XP and Vista machines and requires the .NET Framework
2.0. To find out whether you have the .NET Framework 2.0 choose Control Panel
from the Start menu on your desktop, Double-click the Add or Remove Programs
icon and scroll through the list of applications. If you see Microsoft .NET Framework
2.0 listed, then you have the required version. Versions 1.0 or 1.1 of the framework
are not sufficient. It must be 2.0.
If you do not have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed you may obtain it directly
from Microsoft through Windows Updates.
The .NET Framework is available as an optional update so you must choose the "Custom
Install" option on the updates page.
Known Issues:
Some users with McAfee 8.0 Enterprise Edition may experience problems with dialog
boxes not showing any text. This is due to an interaction between the .NET Framework
and the buffer overflow protection in McAfee. It has nothing to do with HappyFish.
This is an issue that McAfee has addressed with a patch. Check their site for more
information.
